Habitat for Humanity GTA is significantly increasing our commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s global mission and introducing funding for individuals who are volunteering on
Global Village and Canada Builds trips.

For every home Habitat for Humanity GTA builds this year, we will commit up to $2,000 per home to support Habitat Canada’s Global Village program; of that, $1,000 will go directly to Habitat Canada’s Global Village program, and two $500 grants are available to Habitat GTA staff, volunteers and supporters to apply for toward their participation in a Global Village or Canada Builds trip. Please note the entire Global Village trip is tax deductible including airfare.

Based on Habitat GTA’s plan to complete 30 homes in 2017, we hope to enable up to 60 people to participate in Global Village or Canada Builds trips this year.

“Our Canada’s 150th initiative represents a significant opportunity to strengthen our commitment to the global mission,” said Ene Underwood, CEO, Habitat for Humanity GTA. “We’re excited about being able to support Habitat GTA staff, volunteers and donors in being part of the Habitat for Humanity mission around the world and in remote parts of Canada.”

Late last year, when details of the new program were finalized, Habitat for Humanity GTA made a $26,000 contribution to Habitat for Humanity Canada’s Global Village program, $1,000 for each of the 26 homes constructed in 2016. Therefore, we have 52 – $500 grants available for application.

One of the Canada Builds trips we are planning for 2017 is to the Yukon (August 5 – 12); there will be more details to follow in upcoming newsletter regarding this trip and other trips being organized by Habitat for Humanity GTA.
